Who Will Take Care of Us? Mum, Dad, Alzheimer's & Me (Alzheimer's Disease Documentary) | Only Human
In this Alzheimer's documentary, Fiona Phillips investigates the care of Alzheimer's patients in the UK. The number of people suffering from dementia, the majority with Alzheimer's, is projected to rise from 700,000 to over 1 million by 2025 and 1.7 million by 2051, creating what some predict to become "an Alzheimer's epidemic" with lower birth rates skewing the numbers of carers.
Currently, unpaid family members acting as carers are saving the government just over 6 billion pounds a year. The burden of caring for a spouse or family member is a draining experience, leaving one question for tomorrow's Western societies, Who will take care of the rising numbers of dementia and Alzheimer's sufferers in the future?
