Perhaps I wonder if reason we never get a good fan made fighting game, is because unlike say general single player games where there is perhaps a more cohesive consensus of what people enjoy. Fighting games we have the variable that the person we are playing vs in this actual competitive endveaor dont always like any other character than the one they are playing. Whats worse they can't even appreciate the other play styles, and somehow we are putting these players in charge of making these games and its just a road to diaster.
A example I didnt touch upon is its always interested to see smash bros creator because theres a guy that just seems like he loves all sorts of different stuff and he appreciates it on so many levels. Sometimes you look at characters that arent even his own creations and it feels like he does have some love for them and appreciates them which is nice. Still wont forgive him for making pikachu skinny in the games now but meh...
