This visual effects video delux tutorial shows you how with a little tweeking you can express different states of a thing in GameMaker Studio or basically any video game.

Have you ever wondered why when you press a button in a video game you instinctivly know that this does something. Because if you look at it, its just pixels on the screen which form a specific shape but you still recognize it as a button. Why is that and who did this to you? Well, strap yourself in I have big news for you!

Your brain is trying to make sense of all visual inputs. So you see some shapes and boom your abstract thinking is giving you the info, yep that is a button mate. But why is that? Well, because the thing you are seeing resembles something which you are familiar with, your body. Why do you think when you see something pulsing you think its something alive or something in progress? It resembles a heartbeat and abstract thinking connects the dots for you. A great example is the Rubin's Vase, your mind is flying on autopilot and trying to connect things to make sense. Some people see a vase some faces. More power to the humans!
