Why Did The US Build The F-16 Falcon When The F-15 Was Already There?
Experiences learned in the aerial battles during the Vietnam War gave birth to the famous F-15 Eagle, but soon, the Air Force discovered that the F-15 was a pretty big aircraft against the small and agile MiG-21. This thought initiated the Lightweight Fighter program, which ultimately produced two aircraft, the YF-16 and the YF-17. The YF-16 defeated the YF-17 during competition and became the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
