Why Red Bull's Alex Albon is better than you think By Peter Windsor
It may have been a hard-tyre, limited-mileage "media day" for Red Bull - and it may only have been Silverstone's National circuit. For Alex Albon and the race team, however, this was an opportunity, in the build-up to the July 5 Austrian GP, to get back into the rhythm of things in the Covid protocol era. And excellent video footage from Red Bull from the day includes head-on action of Alex turning-in to Silverstone's Copse Corner. Close inspection of Alex's turning-in point says plenty about the finesse of Alex's steering inputs; and the stable platform he is thus able to create also explains why he is so deceptively and consistently fast. How meaningful is the evidence? This is a current, 2020, RB16-Honda - and although Copse is today flat, or nearly-flat, the "show car"-compound Pirellis would, if anything, have asked more of the driver's sensitivity. It's significant.
With thanks to Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and Honda.
