A few days ago Niche Gamer reported on leaks from a know gaming magazine leaker from Japan who claims Square Enix is pulling an Elden Ring with Dragon Quest III 2D-HD Remake. The reaction to these leaks have lead to wide spread criticism and even calls for boycotts of the game despite this being in line with a dumb industry trend. While the change may be extremely minor, I think Square Enix should pay attention to peoples reactions if they want to make a profitable recovery after canceling their PlayStation exclusivity deal, cutting tons of western jobs, and canceling un announced games that are no longer going forward.
Like it or not the culture wars in gaming have reached a boiling point and things people let slide in the past they may not in the future. Square Enix needs to decided whether or not keeping a PC image is more important then catering to patinate fans of the Dragon Quest series for maximum profit.
