It's easy to write off the Atari 2600, aka the Video Computer System or VCS, as a primitive old pile of electronics with terrible graphics and sound, and video games that no-one in their right mind would want to spend any time with today.

But if you're serious about your games, it's well worth spending some time with this classic platform, and seeing exactly how the game styles and genres we know and love today first formed -- and what was left back in the late '70s and early '80s!
