Why The Pros Use Baptiste & Brigitte | Overwatch League

This episode Robbie and Jake talk about why Baptiste and Brigitte are so popular in the Overwatch League Summer Showdown.
The Healer Meta
Last week Robbie and Jake talked about the prevalence of Widowmaker and Tracer in the APAC region. A trend that continued for a few teams even after the hero pool restrictions were lifted. With all the heroes back on the card the big change in the league was the comeback of Brigitte. Though not everyone chose to run her and Baptiste all the time, a large majority of the teams did.
Jake explains what makes both of these heroes so good in the league. it's all about their individual strengths at any given moment. The ultimate ability of a hero is usually when a player is going to provide the most impact during a match. Genji with his Dragon Blade or Zenyatta with an ult-canceling Transcendence. But Baptiste and Brigitte are a bit different. Of course, their ultimate abilities can help to turn a fight, but even without them between armor packs adding on extra health in the form of armor and immortality, the benefits of these healers are felt even without ultimate's.
Brigitte Nerfs
But will it all stay this way now that Brigitte has incoming nerfs? The big changes to Brigitte's kit involve her armor packs and her shield. The biggest change is the armor packs. Before, if you threw an armor pack onto a hero and it over healed them, they'd get the extra health as armor. Doing this you could make a normally 150 HP Tracer have 200 HP, which gives her a big advantage over an enemy Tracer in a duel. Over healing will no longer grand extra health. Her Shield health has also been increased, but the rate at which it regenerates has been reduced.
Overall, Jake doesn't think it should impact her pick rate too heavily. She's still great support and serves a specific purpose, but she should feel more fun to play against. Will Baptiste and Brigitte still be paired up as much in the Overwatch League? That remains to be seen.
