A lot of us went through a crazed vampire phase at some point in our young adulthood. It is hard to find a teenage girl who hasn’t read Twilight, binged True Blood, or watched all of The Vampire Diaries. But have you ever stopped to think about why? From Dracula to Nosferatu, there’s always been a history of vamps in film, even if they were initially much more boring than the vampires we see in the media nowadays. What strikes our fancy about these dangerous creatures? There is no denying that their immortal powers set them up to be admirable, both in terms of their mystical abilities and their good looks! Vampires have unlimited resources, are super smart, and have immense strength, setting them apart and making them stand out against a crowd. We are drawn into these features in terms of our psychological needs and wants for our future partners. Because of this natural draw of the mystical creatures, it makes sense that the vampire revival happened in the mid 2000s; the media was giving the people what they wanted! Twilight was a huge inspiration for many other series that came about in this vampy time frame, including The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Legacies, and True Blood. Each of these series has lasted an impressively long time on television, showing how much influence our infatuation has. Despite some of the hate that these series have gotten, vampire obsessions are totally justified and make sense once we break it down.
