Widener University is a private research university in Chester, Pennsylvania, United States. Founded as The Widener School of Law and Economics in 1821,Widener's official name is The Widener University of Pennsylvania. Widener consists of 11 schools and colleges, including a school of law, business, education, and liberal arts and sciences, and is organized into four main campuses in Chester and Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. The main campus, referred to as the Old Campus, is located in the "Chesterbrook" area of Chester, approximately 30 miles (50 km) west of Philadelphia. It was founded in 1821 with the establishment of the law school, the first of its kind in the United States. The Old Campus is the site of the first one-room schoolhouse in the United States, which is now a museum. One of the four campuses, The Widener School of Business, is located in the Elkins Park section of North Philadelphia. The business school is located in the former Elkins Estate. The Elkins Park campus was added in the late 1970s with the acquisition of the former Crum and Forster Estate.
