I had some trouble nailing the perfect timing every time. It felt so finicky and it doesn't help that it's slightly off-beat. What I figured out was that the timing is not when the step lands in the "frame" as you would expect from any other rhythm game.

Instead, you have to aim for the window where the steps are moving, before it stops. Pretty large window to time it, so once you know what to aim for, it's easy to get perfect. I feel like I didn't explain that well but clearer words aren't coming to me right now.
