Will COMMANDER CODY Become a COVERT OPERATIONS TROOPER in Star Wars: Bad Batch? - Star Wars
With Star Wars: The Bad Batch releasing very soon and Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi coming after that, we have gotten some pretty massive leaks about how the two shows might connect, and why Commander Cody will probably be the character that bridges the gap.
So, I’m going to break down the massive Commander Cody Bad Batch rumours and how he will likely be one of the main villains in the Kenobi series.

A few days ago, the trailer for Star Wars: Bad Batch released and with it, we were given a pretty awesome look into the life of the Clone Troopers after the Fall of the Republic and after many of them had just engaged in the horrible betrayal of Order 66. We get to see Palpatine’s powerful speech, declaring the creation of the Empire, and all of the Clone Troopers on Kamino are brought in front of a large broadcast screen, where they are shown his message and accusations of Treason against the Jedi order.
Because of this, It’s pretty likely that Palpatine is going to extend the previous Orders, and actually send squads of Clones around the Galaxy to hunt down fallen Jedi and deserted Clones. Some, like the ones in the Darth Vader comics and Jedi Fallen Order will certainly become Purge troopers, and follow the inquisitors in their hunt for the surviving Jedi, but some may even be turned into the Covert Operations Troopers from the Republic Commando novels. I’ll explain exactly what the role of the Covert Operations troopers are very shortly.
But in the Bad Batch Trailer, we see a group of Clone Troopers marching forward in Darkened armor. This armor honestly looks very, very similar to the armor that the Cover Operations troopers wore in the concept art and Toy Figures created along with the Republic Commando novels. Because of the Covert and secretive nature of the missions given to the Cover Ops Troopers, they were handed incredibly specialized and highly modified stealth armor. They armor was coated with a highly-advanced, classified material known as Reflec, which would warp light that bounced off it, prevent sensors from scanning them and also stop radar from being able to detect their presence.
We already know from the Mandalorian that Dave Filloni loves to bring characters from Expanded Universe books into the spotlight, and they have now even brought several vehicles from old toy lines into the show, so this is very likely Dave Filloni sticking to the source material.
Further to this, many leaks have recently surfaced claiming that Commander Cody is the Clone Trooper in the darkened armor, with the Antenna on his head, leading the Covert Operations squad form the Bad Batch trailer.
If this is the case, that would almost perfectly match the role of the Covert Ops troopers in the Republic Commando Novels. So, I’ll quickly breakdown their highly secretive and honestly pretty horrific role in the Grand Army.
The Covert Operations Units of Clone Troopers were chosen from the most Elite Troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic, and were very strictly tested and checked before being covertly recruited. Most of the clone Troopers that were selected for this role were the ones that would be able to perform the Republic’s “dirty work” without question or without being disgusted with their tasks. These Clones were given tasks that almost every other Clone troopers would find extremely questionable, horribly unethical and pretty gruesome.
Once a Clone Trooper was selected for the Cover Ops role, he was brought into a secret training facility, where he would then be assessed and trained by the Null ARCs N-10, Jaing Skirata, and N-5, Prudii Skirata. They would be taught commando tactics and how to perform covert missions as a group, and alone, if the worst case should ever happen.
Once these Covert troopers were placed out into the line of duty however, the “dirty work” they were asked to do was not always exactly what they expected and created a lot of tension and turmoil within many of the Covert Operations units. The most horrid task that all Cover Ops troopers dreaded to be assigned to, was to eliminate and assassinate their own brothers. Most often they would be sent out to execute any Clone Trooper who had deserted from the Republic to live their own life, on sight, without question. This would certainly match with what the rumours and leaks say about the dark armored troopers from the Bad Batch trailer.
