Will Judas Really be that Different from BioShock? | Judas Announcement Trailer Analysis (2022)
262One of the more surprising announcements from the 2022 Game Awards was Judas, the next game from BioShock lead developer Ken Levine and Ghost Story Games. Leaks and rumors surrounding the next game from Ghost Story may have led some to believe that Judas would be a wholly different experience to BioShock, but during its reveal trailer, it was clear to see tonal and gameplay influences from BioShock on full display. However, Judas could still have surprises in store, if Ken Levine's ambitious design philosophy plays out as intended in the game.
As Game Developer reported at the time, Ghost Story Games is the successor to Irrational Games. Best known for developing BioShock and creating its terrifying splicers, Ken Levine (a 24-year veteran of the gaming industry, involved in earlier cult classics Thief and System Shock 2) continues to work as Ghost Story's creative director. For the past eight years, Levine has dropped hints about how his next game will be structured, such as giving talks to GameSpot at GDC about "narrative Legos" helping to create highly reactive and re-playable video game worlds.
