東方鬼形獣 ~ Wily Beast and Weakest Creature is the seventeenth official Touhou game. It was announced by ZUN on April 17th, 2019. A playable demo was released on May 5th, 2019, and the full version was released on August 12th, 2019.
The game features Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame, and Youmu Konpaku as playable characters. The characters use animal spirits for subshots, and can select one out of three. Wolf powers up the player's focused shot, Otter powers up the player's bombs, and Eagle powers up the player's unfocused shot. There is also a roaring mode that corresponds to each.
"They're trying to take over the surface world with brute force and sheer numbers.
I beg of you! Venture into Hell with me, and put a stop to their plans!" So she was told, by a beast spirit that was cooperative with humans...
Reimu, Marisa and Youmu encounter several animal spirits from Hell, who claim that their fellow animal spirits are plotting to take over the surface world. The three heroines team up with the spirits, and venture into Hell to take out this new potential threat.
The main story revolves around the heroines getting lead around by the beast spirits to Hell, and eventually to the Animal Realm and the Primate Spirit Garden where the heroines fight Keiki Haniyasushin believing she was the cause of the incident.
The extra story revolves around the heroines going to hell to stop the real invasion of the beast spirits, which ends up leading her to Saki Kurokoma.
