Wojciech (Adalbertus) Dankowski (Danek)
(Wielkopolska?, c.1762 - c.1810)

Polish composer and violinist. Initially he was associated with the Cistercian monastery in Obra Wielkopolska, where he probably received his musical training. Around 1779, he was a monastery musician there. Between 1789-1790 he worked as kapellmeister and composer at the cathedral in Gnieźno. J. Elsner provides information, unconfirmed by other sources, that around 1792 Dankowski was a violist in the German Theatre in Lviv. He worked in Poznań, probably in the early nineteenth century, where a considerable number of his works have been preserved in the Church of Mary Magdalene. Some early Dankowski manuscripts from Obra Wielkopolska, copied by M. Bocheński from Grodzisk Wielkopolski are signed with his abbreviated name - Danek. Dankowski’s compositions were known not only in the Wielkopolska region, but also in Vilnius, Kremenets, Krakow and other centres.
