Original Song by Ray Lynch
This was probably the first piece of electronic music that I heard (I went to Disney World a lot as a little kid) and needless to say, the song stuck with me after all of these years. The Wonders of Life pavilion is a fairly historic building in Epcot. Despite being built in 1989, it is Epcot's latest expansion: the newest thing that took up unused space. It also goes back full circle as it was closed down in 2007 and was replaced with nothing. The building is just kind of there and is used for seasonal festivals with all of the attractions no longer present. When the pavilion was active, there were a few attractions to see. One of which was Epcot's first thrill ride, Body Wars. This ride was directed by Leonard Nimoy and was often described as a more intense variant of George Lucas' Star Tours (1987-2010). Then there was Cranium Command, which featured animation in the pre-show that impressed the Disney Executives to the point of having the animation directors of that project direct the Disney adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Finally, there was 'Making of Me' which taught kids about human reproduction. No stork, no lies; just the truth conveyed to younger audiences in a way that they could understand without the film coming across as condescending. The only other time I can think of Disney being direct about the topic of sex was their adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (which I am definitely going to have to review someday), which coincidentally enough was directed by the same people who did Beauty and the Beast so this all comes full circle once more.
Epcot tends to have split reactions as for what the park should ideally be. Some just want fun rides, others feel that the park has drifted away from it's overall theme and message as years went on. However, it is largely agreed upon that this pavilion and it's attractions found a good balance between the two.
I remember going inside when I was very little and being way too afraid to go on Body Wars. Now that it's closed down, I highly regret not going on it.
