How did the term boob tube come about?

tube (n.)
1610s, from French tube (15c.), from Latin tubus "tube, pipe," a word of unknown origin. The London subway was christened the Twopenny Tube by 1900 (H.D. Browne, in the "Londoner" of June 30); tube for "cylindrical railway tunnel" is attested from 1847. The meaning "TV as a medium" is from 1959, short for cathode ray tube or picture tube.
The two words were combined based on the notion that much of what is viewed on television is either foolish, or geared toward foolish people, also known as the booboisie, a word coined by HL Mencken for 'the class composed of all who are considered boobs'.
Our Railroad has the initials TVR. TV is short for Television, which had the name boob tube. There you go.
