World in Conflict; IBCS: EOC gateway selection & init process test
IBCS code for WIC Patriot WCC 9.0 introduces concept of init(8) and namespace isolation (virtualization), simulating basic SystemV *nix models for managing different modules and processes in the IADS network of units.
init is the first process that runs and is responsible for starting all other processes.
Heavy SAM (Patriot fire unit) and MEADS MFCR are designated as C2 nodes, known as "IBCS EOC Gateways" (engagement operations center). EOC/C2 units run in ap_vm namespace; M901-M903, Iron Dome and THAAD launchers run in lseq_vm namespace; all other shooters and sensors run in ifcn_vm space.
Only one C2 node can be designated as active EOC Gateway at a time. If the current active EOC gateway is incapacitated (due to player shutting off the radar by placing it into Hold-Fire, or unit being killed), the ap_vm namespace is copied over to the second player unit's EOC gateway (stateful switchover/SSO), preserving all running states and radar tracks.
Prior to init process run, the game triggers python ShooterBase on C2/EOC gateway units -- once triggered, an initial bootstrap (boot loader) code section is executed until the init process runs.
