World Tree of Hope spreads a message of peace and unity
Christmas is a time of giving and love. Every year, the Rainbow World Fund, an all-volunteer, LGBTQ+-based humanitarian aid organization, gather wishes and hopes for the future.
For the last 18 years, the Rainbow World Fund invites people to come together around their World Tree of Hope.
"The World Tree of Hope is a symbol of global unity, peace, love and hope", Rainbow World Fund founder Jeff Cotter says.
"Unlike other Christmas trees in general, this one is decorated literally in wishes and hopes and dreams from people all over the world folded into thousands of origami cranes", Sister of Perpetual Indulgence Shalita Corndog shares.
"The origami crane is a symbol of world peace", Cotter explains, "Every origami crane on the tree has someone’s wish for the future on it".
According the Cotter, there are 10,000 individual messages of peace, health and love hanging on the largest origami decorated holiday tree in the world.
This year’s celebration was held at historic Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.
"You cannot help but feel divine energy just walking into this place", Shalita Corndog reveals.
Hundreds of people attended the ceremony highlighting beautiful choral songs and inspirational speakers. The evening concluded with the symbolic lighting of the tree.
"It’s to shine light against the darkness in the world", Cotter says.
"This one little Christmas tree here in San Francisco, it’s a symbol of light for the entire world to see", Grace Cathedral Deacon Malcolm Clemens Young adds.
"No matter how horrific the present time may be in different parts of the world, no matter how much pain people are enduring , that there is hope for the future", California State Senator Scott Wiener declares.
