I'm near 100% certain that some smartarse in the comments will spoil the lesson that will be learned today rather than waiting for the end of the video. Here's the thing, distribution deals do not work like this. Publishing deals also don't work like this. What I thought was about to happen also don't work like this.
The publishing deal : we front the development costs and then take a royality on sales at the rate of 100% **until all costs have been recouped** (possibly with a low share going to the dev team, usually ~10%) after which time the publisher takes a cut on an ongoing basis - 30% is about right. The publisher is responsible for marketing, and may also contribute on QA.
In a distribution deal : distributer pays little to nothing up front and simply mass produces the game before sending it out to stores. The dev is responsible for marketing and all other costs - including that of development itself. There's then a share split between the devs and the distributors. Simples.
