Stage 4 of the 2nd volume of X Challenge stages has us taking on the pairs: Dragoon/Tiger, Rosered/Sponge, and Firefly/Armadillo. This is also the first appearance of the X5 Boss remix which I'm personally a big fan of.

For Dragoon/Tiger, both Double Cyclone and Spinning Blade have their uses. I take Double Cyclone here as it has better chance of hitting both targets, shuts down Dragoon entirely, and can hit Tiger in tricky places. This does lead to a bit of a drawn out fight with Tiger though, which is enough of a reason to consider it over Double Cyclone. Spinning blade doesn't shut down Tiger as well as Cyclone does with Dragoon, but it can still hit both, and Dragoon by himself goes down more quickly than Tiger does. Both can work, and its a matter of ease-of-use vs. speed.

For Rosered/Sponge, similar weapon debate takes place. Charged Ground Fire can shut down Rosered entirely with good placement (unlike my performance shown), but Sponge by himself is still a drawn out fight like Tiger was with Dragoon. This gives merit to taking Sonic Slicer, as it’s more ammo efficient, can hit both targets, and leaves a target that doesn’t have long invincibility windows. The trade-off is once again not being able to simply shut down a target as easily. Both can work with great success in this pairing.

Firefly/Armadillo becomes a joke with the use of charged Electric Spark. Electric Spark effectively removes Armadillo from the picture entirely and does decent damage to Firefly while hitting both almost every shot. If you haven’t picked up the achievement yet, this will almost certainly be the boss pairing where you get the medal for clearing a stage in under 1 minute (as seen in my battle).
