Shadows of the Damned is a 3rd person adventure game of moderate length and difficulty. Once you have mastered the somewhat finicky aiming. The game itself is an engaging take on the b-movie horror genre; the rapport between Garcia, our hero, and his sidekick Johnson is often amusing despite being puerile (and in spite of the abundance of double-entendres it is never as offensive as the f-bomb riddled "house of the dead: overkill" which took similar inspiration from grind house cinema).

The game often feels a little too linear and straightforward, and you'll find yourself up against similar enemies, in different yet remarkably familiar environments, completing the same sort of tasks over and over. It seems the developers realized this and later in the game added side-scrolling levels and gallery style shooting levels- they never work quite as well as the main game but they are interesting diversions that spice up the adventure. -
