Xenomorph Warrior - Explained (Alien Lore)

Xenomorph Warriors are the main Offensive and Defensive force of an Alien Hive. When matured, and their numbers have grown sufficiently and once their hive has been established a Drone will undergo metamorphosis and become a Warrior; developing enhanced strength, a harder carapace and its most distinguishing feature, a toughened ridged head replacing the translucent dome of the Drone.

They retain the same weaponry from the Drones, the inner jaw, sharp claws and bladed tail, except in some cases these can be enhanced and even deadlier, such as them having a longer tail barb. They will usually attack in large numbers, able to overrun whole colonies.

Their main purpose is to protect the Queen and her eggs at any cost, usually waiting in a dormant state on the hives resin to blend in with their surroundings, until an intruder comes too close, and the warrior will take them by surprise. But they will also go out looking for new hosts to bring back, similar to a drone.

Alien Warriors were first seen on the Weyland Yutani colony Hadley’s Hope, located om LV-426 where the father of a family unwittingly got impregnated while exploring the derelict spaceship and was brought back for medical attention. The Aliens then overran the colony and used the settlers there as hosts to create a hive.
When a group of USCM Marines accompanied by Ellen Ripley came to investigate, the Aliens killed most of them, but they were destroyed when the damaged atmosphere processor melted down and exploded.

So I thought the Warriors were a pretty cool variation of the Xenomorphs. I do prefer the domed heads, but I do also like the ridged heads, especially the ones from AVPR.
The actual reason behind the difference in appearance between the aliens in the first and second films is that with the increased number of stunts and action in Aliens, James Cameron was concerned that if the alien costumes had the clear domes they'd get damaged if the suits got knocked about so he decided to simply remove them from the costume and said that these were a more matured version of the Xenomorphs as the one from the first film was only a few hours old, but the ones in aliens had been around for a few weeks or months I think it was, and this does make sense as when animals that slough their shells like crustaceans are soft for a while until their new exoskeleton hardens up.
I thought it was a really cool detail and that the filmmakers actually came up with an explanation as to why they altered the design which isn't something they seem to bother addressing nowadays, they'd probably just ignore stuff like that and not bother explaining it.
