Now I have completed collecting the Sega Genesis Saga, the Holy Trinity as far as it's mainline add-ons. Finally got a Sega 32X! In the video I show the console itself and talk a bit about it, and I test a game that I got for it, Doom.

For those who don't know, the 32X was a Sega Genesis add-on that was an attempt to get the Sega Genesis up to speed with the 32-Bit hardware that was coming out at the time, but of course failed. It retailed at $150 USD in 1994 and of course you needed a Genesis to use it. Like the Sega CD, it needed another Power Adapter for it too, but unlike the Sega CD, it also needed a bridge cable to connect it to the Genesis AND it needed it's own video cable. You might be thinking, why isn't it it's own console at this point? Well, funny thing was that Sega actually planned to release a Sega Neptune which was going to be a Sega Genesis and 32X in one.

The reason for the 32X to exist was because the Genesis/Mega Drive was still really popular in 1994 (at least in North America and Europe), so Sega of America decided to release this add-on so that people can still keep their Genesis but have the option to get the benefits of 32-Bit. In Japan, the Mega Drive was somewhat of a flop so Sega of Japan decided to move on from that console and come out with the Sega Saturn. So what happened was that as Sega had the Sega Saturn in Japan already as their new true 32-Bit system, set to release a year later in the states, consumers got confused and most ended up waiting for the Saturn rather than buying the 32X. As a result, the system was discontinued only about a year later, was put on clearance for about $20, and only had about 40 Games total released for it in that time. The 32X did eventually get released in Japan too by the way. This bad decision by Sega to release two 32-Bit consoles further helped to put them in financial troubles for the future. The Sega Saturn did pretty well in Japan actually, but flopped everywhere else, and by the time of the Sega Dreamcast which did decently, Sega couldn't fund it anymore and that's why they don't make consoles anymore.
