Year of Luigi? what was that? A Year of Luigi Retrospective
Luigi has been a steeple of the Mario franchise for 40 years at this point. He's been in basically every main line Mario game since the early to mid 80's-- Despite one or two disapearences.
Yeah, Mario Brothers 2 (Both American and Japanese versions) gave him a higher jump and made it clear that Luigi needed a change of shoes. Some Mario Media back in the day did also give Luigi his scared personality, and I think Nintendo listened to it, because in the early 2000's with Luigi's Mansion that my main guy was recognized more than just a green clone of Mario, and Other Mario RPG's such as Paper Mario could make you feel sort of sorry for the guy- As it was let known that this silly green man could feel under appriciated.
And back in my earlier years, I would have loved a traditional Mario game that you controled Luigi exclusivley. and it wasn't until 10 years ago that finally happened.
I'm not really sure what happened in the year of 2013, back when the Harlem Shake was a giant meme... So much so Nintendo Made their own!
Yeah...
Let's never speak of any of that again.
But It was just decided by Nintendo that THAT year was going to be the Year of Luigi. I know that year is, in fact, Luigi's 30th anniversary, but like... I don't really know how much of that was planned and how much of this was coincidence.
Because I could totally see Nintendo making a couple Luigi Centric games, only then to realise that It's Luigi's 30 years of exsistence... and that they should probably do something...
I also remember there being SOME hype for this... But as we've already established, I am pretty Luigi biased.
Any way, I am calling this the Year of Luigi 2, weather or not Nintendo cares or not!
And it want to take a retrospect on the fenominon 10 years ago, as well as some other ways you can play as Luigi-- besides the blatently obvious Smash Brothers, and Mario Sports games.
