Mecha games can show up on platforms you probably would not expect compared to the usual suspects, but the N64 had one (and a sequel) in the form of Custom Robo. This was a stream where I had to go against my general rule of playing games on OG hardware, because I wanted to have the english translation patch for this game give a bit of context as to what is going on. Even though it's not much more than kids are into the Custom Robo battling and you gotta fight to be the best one in town. It's a simple game with a lot more nuance to its simplicity than most would give credit, and at the end of the day it carves out a strong niche for itself, taking the mecha concept and putting it through the lens of robots as toys. They don't always need to be giant for it to count.
