You missed THIS in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In the original 1977 film Star Wars, there were supposed to be Red and Blue squadrons that attacked the Death Star. The color blue created issues with the blue screens used for special effects, and so the blue squadron was changed to gold. Later, in Rogue One, we see the Red, Gold, and Blue squadrons attack Scarif, and the Blue squadron is completely destroyed, which creates a reason for why they weren’t present at the Death Star battle.
