You missed THIS in The Shawshank Redemption. Stephen King, the author of the short story that the film is based on was paid a ridiculously low amount for the rights. How much was he paid? It was so little that he never even cashed the check he received for it. He instead framed the check and mailed it to the director with a note that said “In case you ever need bail money, Love Steve” The check he framed and sent was written out for just $5,000.
