You missed THIS in The Silence of the Lambs. When characters in the film talk to Clarice Starling, they often speak directly into the camera, but when Clarice is speaking, she’s usually shown looking slightly off-camera. This was a conscious choice by the director who explained that it was done to make us feel as though we were experiencing the film from her point of view, which would help the audience identify with her.
