This part always remained my favorite part, and Jabba's Palace in ROTJ as a whole, as it convincingly terrified me as a kid. But it's all so masterfully done, in what 2 minutes or less, with an intimidating scene of danger to droids, with an amazing transition from the burning feet to the singer's wail. The drop and roar instilling fear of what horror lies below, 'telling' with Jabba eating the smaller frog. The set pieces and importantly, Jabba's suit was so convincing. CGI *still* hasn't come close to matching his menacing presence. But the first half o ROTJ was always my favorite and what I really took away from it. I say all that to say..
then the Special Edition happened. Jedi Rocks is horrible, that whole CGI bloated obnoxious version is an abomination, gone with the transition, adding in Boba Fett hitting on women, like 4x the band size, and.. but.. why? Did they have trouble over the rights to the original music? Did the band try to ask for too much? A part of me. a big part of me died when, as a teenager, I went to see the special edition in the theater, and that came on the screen.
Honestly, I think that might have been when I started just looking up spoilers for movies, so I could know before stepping into a trap. That was the heartbreak of Star Wars for me (along with Episode I) around the same time with Alien Resurrection and followed a little later by Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. What really gets my goat is the suppression and lack of caring about releasing the original theatrical cuts. Keep the special edition *as* a 'special edition'. But they just keep tweaking and updating and editing.
*I do not own the rights to this film nor is this for monetary gain*
