Just found out this feature in the YouTube app for Android (could not be new). If might not be new for some, but I'll just share it anyway. Just pause the video to start buffering the video. You can also minimize the app in the background and it will still buffer the video.

If your internet connection is slow, then this feature will be very useful for you. Those who do not have an unlimited data plan or internet, then you have to disable it in settings. Not sure whether iOS has this feature though.
