A gameplay video highlighting the variety of combat systems and skills appearing in the upcoming PSP release, Ys I & II Chronicles, launching February 22nd. A re-imagined compilation of the very first entries in the legendary Ys series and the first chapters in the trials of renowned hero Adol Christin, Ys I & II Chronicles is developed by renowned RPG specialists Nihon Falcom. Timeless and classic Action RPG combat and magic is paired with a fresh translation, newly-arranged music and re-imagined art. Brave adventurers, prepare to go forth and embark on the quintessential Action RPG experience.
Ys I introduces players to the unique "bump" system, a unique buttonless combat system that is carried through to Ys II. Fans of blinding speed and motion will be instantly drawn to the combat system, where enemies are obliterated on contact. Simple to learn but satisfying to master, your success with the bump system is determined by speed, angle and trajectory upon impact. Head-on will likely cause you damage, but an off-center, sideways, diagonal or rear hit will be the key to success. Well-aimed hits will be rewarded with an explosive shower of enemy chunks and a bloodstain marking your victory.
The combat of Ys I is further expanded in Ys II with the introduction of magic, affording players a variety of unique active and passive spells to aid Adol in his travels, with six spells in total. The more unique entries to your arsenal include the fire spell, which can be powered up to hone in on enemies or split into multiple trajectories -- and no enemy or innocent townsperson is safe! Additionally, Adol has been granted the power of transfiguration in the form of the Alter spell, allowing him to assume the form of a kangaroo-like creature known as a "Roo." In Roo form, Adol is granted special access to dungeon areas and is able to engage in unique dialogue and interactions with enemies and monsters, clueing the player in to the inner thoughts of foes and adding an extra layer of depth to the game world.
