You don’t need a key for this dungeon, but you do need to find the correct path through the maze. We’ll walk you through that, finding the entrance, and defeating each of the six bosses below.

GO TO THE LIBRARY IN MABE VILLAGE
Since you collected the Magnifying Glass as part of Link’s Awakening’s trading sequence, you’ll be able to read that last book in the Mabe Village library. Read it, and you’ll be able to navigate the Wind Fish’s Egg dungeon.

The last page of the book will have a series of arrows. Take a screenshot, take a picture with your phone, or write it down. You’ll need them in a minute.

At least in the original, there were three different solutions presented here, so yours might not be the same as the image above. Make sure you check the book for yours.

GO TO THE WIND FISH’S EGG AT MT. TAMARANCH

There’s no secret to getting to Mt. Tamaranch. Take the narrow path above Dampe’s house, and climb the first ladder. Your goal is the giant, pink, hard-to-miss egg.

When you reach the top, play the Ballad of the Wind Fish on your Ocarina to crack the egg and open the dungeon.

NAVIGATE THE DUNGEON
From the entrance, head north and jump into the chasm. You’ll land in an empty room. Go north again to find a similar room with four doors.

As you navigate the dungeon, there’s nothing to pick up, and all the rooms look the same. All you have to do is go through the exits that match the code from the book in the Mabe Village library. Follow that pattern, and you’ll come to another pit.

Hop in.

BOSS FIGHT 1: SHADOW ZOL

Equip your Magic Powder. Run away as the Shadow Zol jumps at you, and then spin to toss Magic Powder at it before it jumps again.

BOSS FIGHT 2: AGAHNIM’S SHADOW

Head to the opposite side of the room from Agahnim’s Shadow, and wait for him to throw a energy ball at you. Keep your shield up just in case, and swing at the ball. You’ll hit the projectile back at Agahnim’s Shadow.

Occasionally, he’ll throw what looks like a four-part snowball. You can’t block or deflect these, so if you see it coming, just dodge.

BOSS FIGHT 3: MOLDORM’S SHADOW

This fight works just like your Moldorm fight from way back in Tail Cave. Attack its tail. It’ll start rushing around the room, but if you keep your shield up and just keep swinging, you’ll be fine.

BOSS FIGHT 4: GANON’S SHADOW

This is probably the hardest of the six boss fights inside the Wind Fish’s Egg dungeon, but each of his attacks follow a pattern.

Ganon’s Shadow spins his trident and summon six Blazing Bats. You can’t damage him during this phase, so just get out of the way. Keep moving to avoid the bats.
Ganon’s Shadow throws the spinning trident at you, and then moves near it. Your goal is to loop around the spinning trident, and line up with Ganon’s Shadow.
Two attacks will damage him while he’s waiting for his trident to stop spinning: a charged spin attack with your sword, or a dash attack. We had a lot more luck with a dash attack.
BOSS FIGHT 5: LANMOLA’S SHADOW

Equip your Magic Rod and start firing as fast as you can at its head. The first time you hit it, Lanmola’s Shadow will disappear and reappear coming right at you. With careful timing, you can hit it before it even reforms. Just keep peppering it with Magic Rod bolts until you win.

BOSS FIGHT 6: DETHL

The final boss has two swinging (counterrotating) arms and a central body with a giant eye. Your first goal is to figure out the timing to jump over the arms. Keep to one side so you can jump one arm, switch directions, and then jump the other.

Meanwhile, watch for the central eye to open. You’ll have a couple seconds, so make sure you’re clear of the arms and then fire your Bow or throw your Boomerang at the eye.

It’s an intimidating fight at first, but once you get the rhythm down, it’s pretty straightforward.
