In Zero Tolerance, mankind has made great advances in interstellar travel and colonised the Solar System. Which is protected by an interstellar military conglomerate named the Planet Defense Corps. One of the space warship is attacked by an unknown aggressor of extraterrestrial nature. Also, the nuclear cooling system of the ship has been damaged and a core breach caused by overheating will destroy the starship in a matter of hours.
It's up to the player character to take out this threat, putting them in control of an elite squad called Zero Tolerance. With an arsenal of weapons to hunt the enemy down through a maze of passageways and hidden doors guarded by alien creatures and human killers. In Zero Tolerance you don't just play it, you survive it.
The game is made up of 40 levels spanning three separate areas: a space warship Europe-1, an abandoned merchant freighter, the heavily fortified central command building for the Planet Defense Corps, and the sub-basement areas.
Being one of the few 3D FPS games for Sega Genesis, Zero Tolerance actually gets your adrenaline pumping with tons of fun, non-stop action and rich visual effects. If you're a fan of first-person shooters like Doom, Wolfenstein or Duke Nukem, you might like this one.
Although it received positive reviews, Zero Tolerance didn't have much luck compared to other FPS at the time. Also, slow game mechanics made the gameplay less enjoyable, but no less fun than other classics.
The aftermath wasn't as positive as it was by the reviewers and its commercial success wasn't really the biggest hit. All this makes us wonder what Zero Tolerance would be today if it weren't for its predecessors.
