Visual learning (watching a video) is becoming one of the best mediums for increasing ones skill set. On top of this visual learning, I also assign projects (homework) for you to do on your own. This homework helps cement the knowledge in place and you retain it longer.
My first focus will will be on Microsoft Excel. I work as a data analyst and I've been using Excel since the early 1990's. I use spreadsheets for every facet of my life that involves numbers. It keeps be much better organized and I feel it's a skill set everyone should know, not just for work, but for your home life as well, especially in the financial areas.
Some software I'm considering are Microsoft Word, Google Docs (including spreadsheets, documents, and the other free services they offer).
