01— Curse of the Sea Rats | Metroidvania First Impressions (Steam Nextfest June 2022)
3I backed Curse of the Sea Rats on Kickstarter but haven't been following its development very closely, so this is the first time I've seen or played anything recent, and I must admit, I'm pretty disappointed in what I got my hands on.
Most of my viewers know that I don't LIKE being harsh on demos or indie developers, because I think they have enough on their plate as it is, but I hope there's enough balance of positive vs critique in here that it's fair enough to upload and release. Who knows, maybe something even more positive can come out of this.
Two years after the Kickstarter ended, these are my thoughts on the demo version of Curse of the Sea Rats, a 2/2.5D metroidvania with a piratey theme.

Written Feedback for Devs:
Contact Damage: Unnecessary given the style of combat and healing system you are going for.
Controller Support: Flaky using Steam.
2.5D backgrounds: look incongruous in motion but great in still screenshots.
Text Boxes: Give us a button press option to advance rather than auto-advancing. Also a skip option.
Healing/Consumables: Is the intention to make us grind for currency to buy more healing items should we die to a boss?
