#01: The Trappings of Curiosity
I am Philip, a renowned physicist who teaches at a university. My mother's funeral was about a year ago, and shortly thereafter I receive a letter from the father I never knew; he spoke of his imminent passing, declaring that by the time I read the letter, he would already be dead. ABOUT THE GAME:
Penumbra: Overture (2007), by Frictional Games, is the first chapter of a survival horror series that preceded the more well-known game Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It features much of the same elements - a dynamic physics engine, gameplay that emphasizes puzzle-solving, and instilling psychological horror based on an inability to fight back against the game's monsters.
The story begins when our character, Philip, receives a mysterious letter from the father he never knew shortly after his mother's funeral. A series of clues leads Philip to an isolated part of Northern Greenland, where he begins searching for answers.
