April uses cunning to win back the talking bird for the Old Sailor, but other issues prevent her from being able to get anywhere on a sailboat, including a spell that prevents there from being wind. While April travels north to look for the Alchemist responsible for this, she meets some strange creatures in the forest. Some nice, and some not at all...
In The Longest Journey, we play as April Ryan, living in a futuristic city in America, whose strange dreams seem to pull her into a mysterious and totally different fantasy world. We get to slowly experience this other world as well as the equally strange world that she inhabits, in the city of Newport.
The Longest Journey was developed by Funcom and published by IQ Media in Norway in 1999. It was published by Empire Interactive in the UK in 2000 and by Tri Synergy in North America in 2000.
An iOS port was released in 2014.
The Longest Journey is also known for two sequels: Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (2006) and Dreamfall: Chapters (released in installments, beginning in 2014 and the final in 2016).
