We’re old enough to remember life before the MCU. Yeah kids, an old man’s talking. Back in 2008, if you can believe it, Iron Man was far from a sure thing. Let alone Captain America, let alone Thor, let alone an Avengers team-up. Robert Downey Junior as a B-list Marvel character? Yeah, good luck with that!
The idea of a cinematic shared universe that operated along the same lines as comics, with larger-than-life characters stepping in and out of each other’s stories, sharing vast and complex continuities, was the stuff of fan dreams and nothing more. But then a fairly modestly budgeted adventure directed by the guy from Swingers came along, and changed everything.
Since then we’ve accompanied these creative teams all over the world. We’ve been to space, to the ends of the universe, to other dimensions, back and forwards in time. The adventures keep getting bigger, the characters even more larger than life. Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Wanda Maximoff and The Vision - the list goes on.
And many of these characters have had a huge impact, not just on viewers, but on the very fabric of the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself. These are people with incredible powers, superhuman abilities and magical skills beyond imagination - so naturally, the decisions they make have far-reaching effects on the world around them.
