Even though there are multiple theories concerning the origin of this infamous line, Todd Howard, Bethesda’s chief game developer, revealed in a Kotaku article that it was written by Emil Pagliarulo. The senior game designer just wanted to make the NPCs seem more real and thus created a discourse to make them so. As we know, viral content simply appears.
