Superhero movies often end up turning into long-running franchises - and that can often result in re-casts being required for all manner of reasons.

Whether it's due to scheduling conflicts, inadequate initial castings, actors and filmmakers falling out with each other, or simply because a franchise was rebooted, countless comic book characters have been re-cast in movies over the years.

Sometimes it works out and, of course, sometimes it doesn't - as is the case with all aspects of life - and in this video, we'll take you through some examples of both.

The re-castings in question are; Val Kilmer as Batman in Batman Forever, George Clooney as Batman in Batman & Robin, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk in the MCU, Brandon Routh as Superman and Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane in Superman Returns, the younger cast of actors as the X-Men, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops in the X-Men franchise, Jared Leto as the Joker in Suicide Squad, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Josh Brolin as Thanos in the MCU, Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man, Scott Adkins as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Don Cheadle as War Machine in the MCU.

But which of these re-castings do we think saved their respective franchise and which do we think hurt their respective franchise? You'll just have to watch the video to find out, won't you?!

We hope you enjoy the video! Please leave a comment to let us know what you thought about it. And don't forget to subscribe to CBR's YouTube channel, so you never miss our great new video uploads in the future.
