The Harry Potter film franchise is, overall, a surprisingly faithful adaptation of the books — but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some changes, some which don’t always sit too well for fans. Cough why did you make Ron comedic relief you jerks, cough. Today though I’m talking something a little less frustrating, but nonetheless kinda bewildering at times: the Forbidden Forest and the scenes therein that were cut or changed for the films.
From the early days of the Sorcerer’s Stone — Philosopher’s Stone to all you lovely non-Americans out there — to the dark and dreary finality of Deathly Hallows, we’ve had several prominent moments take place in the Forbidden Forest, but far more so in the books. The films seem intent on cutting these out, whether it’s to lower the centaur budget or to make certain scenes more cinematic. Either which way, we’re here to discuss these changes, from the really big diversions to the itty bitty teeny weeny cuts that you might not have even noticed. Oooh, and there’s only a few brief instances wherein I rant about Steve Kloves and his unique methods for making Harry Potter fans mad. Admittedly, I do go on a bit of a tangent about Barty Crouch Sr, but in that instance I don’t have too big of an issue because, well, that’s a LOT of narrative for one movie.
