Threads, the new microblogging platform from Meta Platforms, has amassed over 100 million sign-ups within a week. This rapid growth could have a detrimental effect on Twitter's traffic as users may switch to Threads. Threads requires an Instagram account, which simplifies the registration process, but deleting the Threads account also results in the deletion of the associated Instagram account. According to SimilarWeb, traffic to the Twitter website declined by 5% in the first two days of Threads' full availability compared to the previous week. Elon Musk accused Meta of utilizing Twitter's trade secrets and poaching employees, although Meta denied these allegations. Analysts believe that Threads may have an advantage over Twitter in advertising due to Meta's strength in that field. Despite competition and the challenges Twitter has overcome in the past, it is expected to persist and endure.
