The final episode... in which we realise that the dark beast was really us, all along.
I don't phrase it very clearly in the spoken commentary, so I'll try to sum up my thoughts on the game again here:
I expected this to be a personal experience. Not just 'another game'. Gris certainly delivered there, but I have to admit I also didn't find it as engaging as others made me expect it to be. That doesn't make the game any worse, of course, I just... could have been more personally invested in the journey.
Every step has been filled with beauty, however - sound as well as pictures. The art assets in this game are really great in and of themselves, and the art direction punches well above this small studio's weight. (I did extend an invitation to the studio to come here and correct me if I'm wrong about anything, but at the time of this upload they have not taken me up on it.) If they're only going to improve from here... I foresee great things. Seal of approval, solid recommendation on either platform. (Note that the PC/Steam version has the soundtrack available for purchase - this is unavailable on the Switch.)
I want to emphasise one thing: I have on more than one occasion mentioned that the starting point for this adventure appears to mirror my experience having to quit playing my instrument - cold turkey, as it were. I *am not* fishing for any sympathies. During my visits with local health care establishments (to figure out what my throat problem was, and hopefully treat it) they did screen me for depression, and while I scored higher than zero by their diagnosis manual it was not enough for them to motivate any treatment. And that was back when it was still... well... raw, if you will. Half a decade in the past, now. I still miss making music, of course, but I would say that I've successfully dealt with it. Still, there are other instruments out there that I would be able to play... Maybe I will.
