0It Takes Two is a Couch/Online Cooperative Action-Adventure Game developed by Hazelight Studios and directed by the well-known Josef Fares, who is also a movie director. The game focuses on the lives of married couple Cody and May and their daughter Rose. Due to yet to be known reasons, the game begins on Cody and May’s plan to have a divorce which they informed to their daughter Rose. Downhearted, Rose would bring her hand-maid dolls that resembles her parents to their shed and would try to repair their relationship by play-acting. As a result of Rose’ tears falling to her dolls, her parents Cody and May would magically find themselves trapped inside them. Cody and May would then meet an anthropomorphic book who calls itself Dr. Hakim, who claims is tasked of mending their relationship while they try to reach Rose. Despite their differences, Cody and May will be forced to work together in order to return to their bodies and will have an unforgettable adventure which will show them the importance of love and family.
The game went on to become one of the best games of 2021, receiving high Metacritic scores of 89 (PC, PS4 and XBSX) and 88 (PS5) during the year. Due to the favorable reviews, the game would also become the definitive Game of the Year of 2021 in which it received 86 GOTYs from various media outlets and award given ceremonies which is the most a game received in that year. The critics were all consistent tagging the game as the best couch coop game of that year and one of the best in history. Further praises were mainly focused on the varying gameplay aspects of the game which included platforming, puzzles, shooters, hack and slash, QTEs, and even some few Fighting Game mechanics; the bug/glitch free experience at launch; the Pixar-worthy level of acting, graphics, music and animation; and the loveable cast of characters. On the other hand, few criticisms were made on the unbalance and inconsistencies of its mini-games and mechanics and how the story fails to live hand-in-hand with its influx of differing gameplay.
As for me, I would agree that it is one of the best games of 2021 and in my opinion is my 2nd favorite game of 2021 after Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The best thing I love in this game is its soundtrack which are captivating and fits right well to its adaptation different kinds of game genres. Even though I found the story to be predictable from the start, the delivery of each actor of their characters develop was great and had a nice balance of drama and comedy all throughout my experience. As to the gameplay, I found the varying genres keeps you interested from start to finish and considering that it is a coop experience, would give you another layer of fun with your gaming partner. Although, I found some sequences to be slightly annoying due to the controls and some camera issues. Regardless, a very recommended game to kids and those who want to play a couch coop with their romantic partners or even friends or siblings. Enjoy the walkthrough!!!
