Victim of targeted shooting in Surrey was 14 years old, police say A 14-year-old from Burnaby is the latest victim of gun violence in Surrey, B.C., according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
IHIT's Sgt. Frank Jang said the teen was stepping out of a cab Monday night in the 11000-block of 148A Street in the Guildford neighbourhood when he was shot and killed.
"We believe our victim was targeted for murder," said Jang. "Finding out the motive is the question on our minds and we're working hard to figure that out."
Jang said the victim is known to police. The driver of the taxi was not physically harmed and is cooperating with police.
The boy is the second teen to be gunned down in Surrey in a 24-hour period.
On Sunday night 19-year-old Harman Singh Dhesi was found with gunshot wounds in the area of 137A Street and 90 Avenue in Surrey. He later died in hospital.

man has died after being shot inside his vehicle in Surrey Sunday night, and police say he appears to have been targeted.
Harman Singh Dhesi was found with gunshot wounds just after 10:30 near 137A Street and 90 Avenue, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Unit (IHIT).
“The victim was known to police and his shooting is believed to be a targeted incident, ” reads a release.
“Investigators will be working to determine motive.” Dhesi was taken to hospital, but did not survive.
Police are asking anyone who has information to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-4448 or to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.
“The initial phase of any investigation is critical for us as we move quickly to secure time-sensitive and perishable evidence,” write Sgt. Frank Jang.
“We are appealing to anyone with dash cam video to secure the footage and contact us immediately.”
A burning vehicle was found around 2 a.m. Monday, and police are trying to determine if a vehicle found on fire is connected to the killing.
“A burning vehicle was found in the area of 176St and Ford Detour Rd in Pitt Meadows at 1:55am. Working to determine if it’s related to our homicide,” reads a tweet from IHIT.
