TL;DR The game is screwed. Sadly this has to be the end of the series

Long version:
Rimworld came out on steam, I switched over from the old system to playing on steam. On steam you can not tell the game, or mods to not update. I had it set up to only update when I play the game (which I do for most of my games) and usually I have enough time to cancel the update and go into offline mode to play without updating. The A15 update was small and downloaded quicker than I could cancel it. I was able to go into the beta mode and re-download A14 but the mods did not have this option. I went around and found all the A14 versions of the mods but even after downgrading everything and setting up the same mod load order, the game refused to run, it just kept telling me to reload. I spend hours trying to find a way to make it work but I got nowhere with it.

The save is dead and theres nothing more I can do about it. I did find out that my old download link from SendOwl still works so for now on I will be using the non-steam version of the game and manually downloading and managing my mods so that nothing can update without me doing it. I am pretty frustrated with all of this because I really enjoyed this series. I am going to take a week to let mods update and get a mod pack set up again. I am not sure if it will be a melee only colony again, but I have enjoyed it quite a bit.
