Pac-Man Arrangement Plus (PSP version)
©2006 Namco LTD.
This was originally uploaded a year ago, but I guess I forgot to make it public and so it sat as unlisted. Making it public overwrites the original upload date, so that's why this upload appears to be new even though it's been around for a while.
When I first heard of what this game is, I was actually kinda intrigued. The name is obviously derived from Pac-Man Plus, a conversion kit designed by Midway to compete with the various Pac-Man bootlegs, and one that actually went on to gain some notoriety. Pac-Man Plus shares the same base code as the original Pac-Man, but with a few added tweaks such as a different maze color, different bonus items, random effects of power pellets, and slightly altered character sprites. It kinda feels like a different game, in a way.
This, on the other hand... not so much.
The Japanese versions of the PSP Namco Museums are definitely in the obscure area. Us Americans were blessed to get Battle Collection, while the Japanese had theirs split across two "volumes". Vol. 2 contains all the games that the first edition left out (King & Balloon, Bosconian, Xevious, Mappy, The Tower of Druaga, Grobda, Dragon Buster, Dig Dug II, Motos, and Rolling Thunder), along with Dragon Spirit, a Motos Arrangement, and... this. I guess Namco thought this compilation needed a Pac-Man title, but they already did Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and Pac-Man Arrangement on the previous edition and didn't feel like packaging any other Pac-Man games, so they took the 2005 Pac-Man Arrangement, tweaked it VERY slightly, and slapped it on the disc. And when I say very slightly, I mean it.
There's no new maze layouts, no new gimmicks or power-ups like Pac-Man Plus, no new bonus items, and the game speed isn't altered in any way. The ONLY gameplay difference is that each of the 6 worlds were slightly modified to represent another Namco property. World 1 is Ms. Pac-Man, World 2 is Battle City (I guess?), World 3 is Mappy, World 4 is Toy Pop, World 5 is Dig Dug II, and World 6 is The Tower of Druaga. There's also some remixes of these game's songs for levels that use these styles (which are mediocre at best), but even then only half the main levels in each world use these themes, the other halves are the same as the original Pac-Man Arrangement. I guess it's meant to give the game a bit more variety in design and style? It doesn't really succeed.
Recording this run is honestly kinda redundant, given that I already have a run of the original game on Hard difficulty and literally nothing changes gameplay-wise between the two. However, I was getting tired of attempting to 1CC the Xbox 360 version of Pac-Man Arrangement (that game is damn near impossible, let me tell you) and decided to do this instead. It makes for some content, if anything. Plus (put not intended), I scored 35k higher this run, so I guess that makes this run somewhat worth it.
Here's my run of the original 2005 Pac-Man Arrangement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAmj_EOOcSE
Played on my PSP using a Namco Museum Vol. 2 disc and recorded using a GV-USB2 capture card with OBS.
