2003 Rose Bowl: Oregon Vs. Marshall (NCAA Football 2003 Season Mode Simulation)
For New Year's Day, I wanted to show you guys a prestigious College Football tradition. Almost every New Year's Day, in Pasadena, California, the champion of the Pacific 10 Conference faces the champion of the Big 10 Conference at the World-Famous Rose Bowl.
The exceptions to the rules are when either the winner of one of the conferences played for the National Championship or if the Rose Bowl IS the National Championship Game. The first exception was in play when I did a simulation of EA Sports' NCAA Football 2003.
The visiting team, the Oregon Ducks, is no stranger to the Rose Bowl, but they hadn't been here in 8 years, and they're looking for their second ever Rose Bowl win, their first coming in 1917. Winning the Pac-10 and after just missing out on the National Championship Game, being ranked number 3, Oregon's looking to prove the BCS Selection Committee wrong.
Meanwhile, their opponents, the Marshall Thundering Herd, are riding the momentum of a strong season, and because of that, they're playing in their first ever Rose Bowl. Winners of the Mid-American Conference and being ranked in the top 5 guaranteed them into one of the BCS Bowls (Sugar, Fiesta, Rose, Orange). And since the Big Ten winner, the Ohio State Buckeyes, is playing in the National Championship, it opened up a spot in the Rose Bowl for Marshall, who are looking to do what every mid-major football program dreams of accomplishing, upsetting a major team, and beating the odds to win a BCS Bowl for their fans and themselves.
Which team will win the Rose Bowl? Will Marshall topple the giant and win their first Rose Bowl? Or will the University of Oregon take advantage of their best season in almost a decade and claim their second Rose Bowl trophy?
