2004Scape LAN Test on Meta Quest 2
I wanted to test LAN, and my Quest 2 was the most convenient device with a browser :p LAN connecting seemingly works no-problem! I'm running the server on my laptop with Fedora Workstation 40, and a client also on the same computer. On the Quest 2 I'm connecting with a Test account (my laptop's IP on LAN with ":8888").
I have a USB keyboard attached for client log-in, but I couldn't get it to hook in-game for arrow-key camera movement. I wonder if there's a better client for Android devices? I'm not used to hand tracking but it seems to not be ideal when trying to switch between Meta UI and the RS client. In-short, this isn't playable as-is in the video and only shows LAN functionality, but I'll likely try this again later and see if I can get it playable on Quest!
Update: This is playable on Quest with Firefox (sideloaded) and a physical keyboard/mouse! (tested USB but BT is likely fine) I couldn't get keyboard hooking ideal in Meta's Browser (for arrow-key camera movement). I believe I used the Fennec APK from F-Droid, but if not that then official Firefox APK from Mozilla (I had a past install from testing OSRS Mobile a little while back and forgot what Firefox I got :p). This also works fine on an Android phone with Fennec and physical keyboard/mouse.
This implies that you can connect to a localhost 2004Scape server with any device on LAN, with virtually any modern web browser no problem! (with a physical keyboard/mouse on Android devices ideally) This seems easy on consoles even and I'm really interested to hear reports about this!
If you want to test 2004Scape from a device to see if it'll work, they have an official server: https://2004scape.org/ If you can get the applet to load and can click Existing User (like 0:13), it'll likely be good-to-go and you don't need an account up until that point (it is pretty awesome and worthwhile to sign-up and play though :p)
2004Scape also runs on game console browsers, with modern requirements (relatively modern JS support, HTML5 + Wasm). Xbox One was reported to work, and someone tested a Nintendo Switch with the Switchbru DNS trick. PS3's browser isn't compatible (PS4/5 may work?). Pazaz (the main dev) also mentioned 2004Scape works on Windows XP and Internet Explorer!
I'm running 2004Scape locally as a singleplayer server, and in this video showing it working for LAN! I have a lot of details on these videos:
Linux: • 2004Scape localhost RuneScape RSPS on...
Windows: • 2004Scape localhost RuneScape RSPS on...
